It all began with wanting to share a literacy game we played during tutoring sessions, that already appealed to students we were working with who needed additional fun ways to support their journey with learning to read, write and spell. Repetition is a crucial element in building neural pathways for learning, and what better way to do this, than with a fun literacy game that changes things up, while at the same time creating an element of thrill?
There are seven introductory versions of ‘yeet’; CVC words, blends, digraphs, silent e words, soft ce and ge words, words containing the r-controlled vowels er, ir, and ur, and words containing a longer spelling rule. Packs contain 54 cards made up of 1 instruction card, 7 ‘yeet’ cards, and 46 vocabulary cards. The spelling rules and sounds used have been chosen based on data from multiple spelling assessments.
